Jakarta, Dexpert.co.id – The Indonesian and Spanish governments discussed cooperation in developing digital startups and cybersecurity. Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G. Plate, said the two countries provide mutual support to strengthen cooperation in the digital sector.

“To follow up so that collaboration can be realized, the two countries held bilateral meetings related to the upstream and downstream infrastructure sectors. Upstream infrastructure through satellite technology, to downstream cooperation to support, for example, digital startups,” Johnny explained as quoted in a written statement, Thursday (1/9/2022).

He stated that currently, Indonesia has many digital startups. Likewise, Spain has experience in developing digital startups.

“Currently, Indonesia has one decacorn, 14 unicorns, and more than 3,000 digital startups. Spain has a lot of experience about that,” he said.

According to Johnny, Indonesia and Spain also discussed cooperation on cyber security. Where both countries are committed to providing support to improve cyber security capabilities.

“For this reason, we will look at opportunities to create an umbrella framework, a kind of MoU model between Indonesia and Spain for the scope of cooperation in the digital technology field,” he said.

Meanwhile, Spanish Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, Carme Artigas, said the Spanish Government also supports Indonesia’s efforts to create digital startups both in the initial phase and scale up.

“Indonesia has proven successful in launching important unicorns. We are doing the same in Spain. We have venture capital fund with a valuation of US$4 billion to support entrepreneurship, open also to foreign funds, such as several private companies from Indonesia,” he explained.

Carme hopes that through a series of meetings during Indonesia’s G20 Presidency, the Spanish Government will also share its vision on data issues.

“Data is a strategic asset for countries, companies, and citizens. We also support the vision of the Minister of Communication and Informatics that proposed the issue of data flow with trust to be discussed in the meeting. That is one of the topics we want to discuss today,” he said.
