    Optimism DEWG Will Bring Progress to the World Digital Agenda

    Jakarta, Dexpert.co.id – The Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G Plate, is optimistic that the 4th Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) G20 Meeting can produce The Bali Package document according to the needs of each country. So that it can support the progress and tangible results of the world digital agenda through the Indonesian G20 Presidency.’

    “We will have productive discussions in the next two days and draft a declaration that will facilitate the progress of our digital agenda,” he said in a press release, quoted on Tuesday (30/8/2022).

    According to him, The Bali Package document preparation has considered many aspirations from G20 member countries according to global challenges. It was discussed in depth by every delegation of the G20 countries from the First Meeting of the DEWG to the current Fourth Meeting.

    Johnny also hopes that, through discussions at the DEWG meeting, the document can be applied globally in order to advance the world’s digital agenda.

    “Not only do we adjust what our aspirations are about the digital future, but we recognize the real conditions that exist, in order to face more complex future challenges,” he said.

    After the implementation of The Bali Package document, Johnny added, his party is optimistic that it will open up opportunities for cooperation between G20 countries and the world for the sustainable advancement of shared digitalization.

    “At the same time, we see and know the opportunities that lie ahead. It is getting bigger but also more complex. So, we need to work together,” he explained.

    As an information, at the Fourth Meeting of the G20 DEWG Meeting in Bali there were 18 delegates who were physically present. Among others, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Meanwhile, the Argentine delegation also attended virtually.

    As for a number of invited countries that attended the fourth session of the G20 DEWG, namely Spain, the Netherlands, Singapore, Rwanda, Cambodia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

    The fourth meeting was also attended by representatives of international organizations, such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), United Nations Economic and Social Commissions for Asia and the Pacific (UN- ESCAP), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and Islamic Development Bank (ISDB).

    The national knowledge partners were represented by Padjadjaran University (Unpad), University of Indonesia (UI), and Gadjah Mada University (UGM). In the fourth session, there were also representatives from government agencies such as the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN).
