Jakarta, Dexpert.co.id – The Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G Plate, is optimistic that Indonesia will become the digital center of Southeast Asia in 2024. This can be achieved if Indonesia have the adequate digital infrastructure foundation.

“We will prepare the infrastructure well, so at the end of this cabinet (2024), the foundations of digital infrastructure will be well prepared. Thus, we can develop and become a digital hub of ASEAN” he said, quoted from a press release, Thursday (21/7/2022).

According to him, the government through the Minister of Communication and Informatics, focused on creating the target of becoming the digital center of ASEAN by developing digital infrastructure. Infrastructure development is carried out massively, both upstream and downstream infrastructure in order to reach all regions in Indonesia.

“The government is not only developing upstream digital infrastructure, but also encourages downstream digital infrastructure to be developed seriously and earnestly,” he said.

Therefore, he stated that the government encourages the development and establishment of digital talent or digital human resources. The establishment of digital human resources is carried out domestically and is encouraged to be carried out globally by including it in the G20 priority agenda.

“I think that is included in our three G20 priority agendas in the context of empowerment for human centered digital development,” he said.

In addition, the Minister of Communication and Informatics focused on developing upstream digital infrastructure in the form of a national data center based on cloud computing in four locations this year, which will start from the Cikarang area, West Java province. He also encouraged the private sector to develop data centers or participate in building downstream digital infrastructure because the potential for development is enormous.

“As of now, data consumption per capita is still very low, around 1 watt per capita. That means that the potential is enormous compared to our neighboring countries. For example, Singapore is 100 watts per capita,” he concluded.
